Recap: August 2024
My financial situation in August was as scorching as the weather. Let’s recap what I’ve been up to:
- August 6: I participated in a panel discussion titled “Overseas Greens’ Political Participation and Observations,” sharing my experiences from a February trip to Japan where I discussed my run for a non-partisan legislative seat with the Green Party.
- August 7: I attended the premiere of the transgender documentary “A deal with the universe”, which was translated by my good friend Yo-Ling Chen.
- August 15: My association, ISTScare, was invited by the Ministry of the Interior’s Land Administration to participate in a gender-friendly restroom design meeting. We drafted a “Gender Design Proposal” for Taiwan to help public institutions and tourist attractions create safe and equitable restrooms.
- August 16-18: We filmed the Rukai cultural documentary “Children of the Sun Tribe” in Pingtung’s Wutai Township.
- August 19: Facilitated a discussion on the transgender documentary “A deal with the universe,” in Tainan, all while editing footage on the train.
- August 21: I attended Taipei City’s second LGBTQ affairs liaison meeting to advocate for gender policies and create more gender-friendly environments in schools and society.
- August 22: I was a panelist for the film “Total Trust,” which discusses China’s pervasive surveillance.
- August 23: I attended the book launch for former DPP chairman Shi Ming-Te’s final work, “I Only Bring Confidence.”
- August 28: I received an honorable mention in the Ministry of Transportation and Communications’ Big Data Competition.
- August 30-31: The editing for “Children of the Sun Tribe” was nearly complete, and we sent it to a color grading studio.
- Financial Difficulties: My job search has been unsuccessful, and my financial situation has worsened. I’ve been relying on my partner for food, but their finances are also strained. Due to unpaid medical bills, my health insurance has been suspended, leaving me unable to afford my hormone medication. Thanks to the support of transgender community, I was able to obtain some hormone medication even my health insurance is suspended. (The bill for the health insurance is 24600NTD ( 746 USD).
Despite my financial struggles, I’ve been exploring new creative endeavors, including DJing, documentary filmmaking, and dance.
